Saturday, April 11, 2009, over 12,400 people participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Tarrant County, Texas. The number of donors exceeded 7,500.

For 16 years, the Race for the Cure’s annual 5K walk/run has been raising money to fund their local breast cancer programs and to help find a cure for breast cancer. The Komen Tarrant County Race for the Cure is the single largest charitable 5K in Tarrant County. Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world.

Donations to this oprganization provide women and men in Tarrant County with services that have literally saved lives:

• Low-cost mammograms
• Medical treatment for qualified breast cancer patients who cannot afford care including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
• Support services including support groups, assistance with finding financial resources, prescription refills, and transportation to medical appointments.
• Education about the warning signs of breast cancer, methods of early detection, and the latest treatment options.

Up to 75% of net proceeds are used for local programs like those listed above, with 25% used to fund cutting-edge breast cancer research.

This, dear readers, is yet another amazing example of the SuperHeroes among us!
